macOS says it cannot check Glance. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, and click Open Anyway.
Allow Screen Recording when asked, then open Glance again. Setup helps you pick an engine.
Apple has not notarized Glance yet, so macOS asks you to confirm it the first time. You only do this once. After 14 days Glance locks until you have a license key. To unlock it, email support@getglance.app with your Machine ID and serial number. Glance shows both on its lock screen, and its Email to buy button writes the message for you. Once it is installed, Glance updates itself.

A Mac with macOS 14 or later. Apple silicon works best. For local models, 16 GB of memory or more is comfortable. Glance checks your Mac during setup and suggests models that fit.
Not with local models. Capture, text reading and AI all run on your Mac through Ollama. If you switch to a cloud API, the captured text or image goes to the provider you picked. A "Local only" switch blocks the cloud completely.
Glance asks macOS to keep its windows out of screen captures, and that works in many recorders. It is not a guarantee. It can change between macOS versions and between apps, and other software may still see that Glance is running. Please test it yourself before you rely on it.
Follow the rules of your school, employer and the people you are meeting. Glance is a tool. What you do with it is your responsibility.
By default a small fast text model and a vision model, through Ollama. You can change both, or connect your own cloud API key. Answers from small local models are good for many things but not perfect.
No. There is no sign-in and no tracking in the app. We only see your email if you write to us, for example to ask for early access or a key.

Yes. About every six hours it asks getglance.app for a small public file. If a newer version exists, Glance downloads it, checks its signature, and installs it when you quit or when you press Restart to update. Nothing about you or your Mac is sent. You can turn it off in Settings, Extras, Updates. The first time you install Glance you do it by hand. After that it looks after itself.
Glance locks. It will not capture until you enter a license key. Your history and settings stay safe. To get a key, email support@getglance.app with your Machine ID and serial number. Glance shows both on the lock screen, and its Email to buy button writes the message for you. We reply with payment details and your key.
