The short version
Glance has no accounts, no sign-in and no analytics. With local models, what you capture stays on your Mac.
What stays on your Mac
- Captures. Glance reads the part of the screen you select. With local models, the text or image is processed on your Mac by Ollama and never sent to us.
- History. If history is on, Glance saves your last 50 answers, a short snippet of what you captured, and your follow-up questions in a file on your Mac. Turn it off or clear it in Settings. Images are not saved.
- Settings. Your choices are saved on your Mac. A cloud API key, if you add one, is stored in your Mac's Keychain.
- License. Your license key is stored in your Mac's Keychain and checked on your Mac. To tie a key to one Mac, Glance reads your Mac's serial number and hardware ID and turns each into a short fingerprint. The fingerprints stay on your Mac and are never sent. The key also holds the name it was issued to, and Glance shows that name.
When data leaves your Mac
- Cloud API. If you choose a cloud provider, Glance sends the captured text or image and your questions to that provider. Their privacy policy applies. The "Local only" switch blocks this.
- Downloads. Setup can download Ollama from ollama.com and models from the Ollama library. Those services see your request as any download.
- License list. Glance may fetch one public file, hosted on Cloudflare, that lists license keys we have turned off. The request has no key, serial number, name or other ID in it. Like any web request, our host sees your IP address. If Glance cannot reach the file it keeps working, for up to 120 days, and then asks you to connect once.
- Getting a key. If you send us your Mac's serial number so we can issue a key, we use it only to make that key. Our key log keeps a fingerprint of it, not the number. The message you sent stays in our mailbox until we delete it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
- Payments. When you buy, our payment provider handles your payment details and email. We do not see your card number.
This website
This site has no analytics and no advertising cookies. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which sees your IP address, as any web host does. If you email us to ask for early access, we keep your email address to reply and to tell you about Glance. Mail to support@getglance.app is forwarded by Cloudflare to our mailbox at Gmail. Ask us to delete your email at any time.
Screen Recording permission
macOS asks you to allow Screen Recording so Glance can read the box you draw. Glance captures only when you press its keys.
